Sweet Thunder‘s Disco Funk monster “Everybody’s Singin’ Funk Songs” has been given a tight rework by CaZ. The OG was a brilliant record but a bit wonky in the mix if you got it at the wrong point. In the words of Clint Eastwood from the film Heartbreak Ridge, this is “Niiiiiiiice and tight”.
CaZ is the new project from the minds of Atlanta-based DJ’s & Producers Mike Zarin & Chris Nicholson.

Italy’s finest purveyors of Jazz, Funk and Soul are having a Christmas Sale, with up to 50% off !!!
So whether you’ve done your Christmas shopping yet or not, get over to Record Kicks.
Here’s a flavour of some recent releases…
The Baker Brothers: ” Time to Testify ” LP
Yet another cracking release from this long running and well respected funk band, and this album is choc full of goodies…
…From the steppin’ instrumental funk of “Genki Strut”, accompanied with sounds of the city, to the laidback Soul of “Heads South”, reminiscent of Steely Dan.
”Pieces of the puzzle” goes further left, with flickers of Chilly Peppers or even Another Ratio. Don’t get me wrong this is not commercial, this is moody, minor-key-funk, with a fusion feel.
And saving the best til last, “Once I had a friend” - an instant classic ! Also available as a single b/w the instrument.
The Strides: ” Reclamation ” LP
Credible genre-crossing album, inlcuding Dub, Reggae, Afrobeat and some MC action courtesy of LTL Gzeus.
Being a Soul and Funk boy at heart my fave ones off this ablum are…
“Well Hung Parliament” – uptempo Afrobeat. A nice builder too, it gets progressively jazzy, then back to the funk. Wicked track.
And “Umbi Gumbi” – a steady Afro-funk number. This track is atmospheric but still tough. …and @ around the 103bpm mark it would go nicely in the mix with the above mentioned “Genki Strut”.
Sales end Dec 15th >>

As a significant pre-cursor to House, Disco lends itself nicely to being remixed. Successfully “Housing” a Funk tune however is a tricky business. All too often sounding cheesy, inappropriate, or worse still, like a big beat tune.
This is how it should be done.
How to remix a funk tune 101 : Your teacher – Avanti
Brass Construction “Changin” (Avanti Rework)
Also check out the rest of the album, “Groove Democracy 2″, from Madrid’s Nelue’s. Choc full of grooves, edits and remixes this is definitely a Jazzier helping than most of the disco currently on the market. Features Nelue, Avanti, Moon Runner, Space Duke, Dynamicron, the mighty Rayko and ofcourse Avanti. Get yourself over to Juno to grab a copy init :)

Some cracking Odyssey remixes forthcoming on ISM records this Christmas, and here’s a little taster…
Faze Action have done a lovely job on Soul weekender anthem “Going Back to My Roots” . With a late 80′s early 90′s house feel to this remix… and as the keys build and layer it really works into ya bones.
The money shot comes at 5 of 7 minutes when the keys change giving you that recognisable piano line from the original.
A really deep and tasteful track with just right amount of the original in it ..init :)
But my definite fave is the Disco Dirtbox remix of “Don’t Tell Me Tell Her” …One of those tunes, if I didn’t know better, I’d struggle to put a year on it. The 80′s flavour in the new instrumentation sounds authentic but it’s tough enough to sound brand new. Defo gonna get lots of play !
Released on :
ISM Records on 12th Dec.

Tony Blackburn: “Jimmy Savile was a complete one-off”
—————————————-
Former DJ, TV presenter and charity fundraiser Sir Jimmy Savile has died, aged 84.
Savile, who was one of the most famous names on British TV and radio in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, died on Saturday.
Police said they were called to his home in Leeds, but that there was nothing suspicious about his death.
His family programme, Jim’ll Fix It, drew in huge audiences and the programme received 20,000 letters a week at the height of its popularity.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said officers were called to the house in Roundhay at 12:10 BST.
Details of how he died were not yet known, but he was recently in hospital with pneumonia.
His nephew, Roger Foster, said he “passed away quietly in his sleep during the night”.
“Jimmy was a wonderful man. His public face is well-known but we knew him much more as an uncle. He was a very good friend. Jimmy will be sadly missed by very many people.”
Broadcaster Tony Blackburn said Sir Jimmy was embraced by everybody, and was “always just Jimmy Savile”.
“He was just a complete one-off. I think he was a bit of a lonely character as well. In the privacy of his own life I don’t think he had very many friends.”
He added: “I’ve never known anyone quite like him. He was a blunt speaking northerner, but also kind and very respectful.”
Presenter Dave Lee Travis told Sky News: “We are all going to be worse off without him around.”
Prince Charles has also praised Sir Jimmy in a statement released by Clarence House: “The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are saddened to hear of Jimmy Savile’s death and their thoughts are with his family at this time,” it said.
Savile started out as a dance hall DJ in the 1950s, before making his name as a broadcaster on Radio Luxembourg.
He was one of the first DJs on BBC Radio 1 and launched Top of the Pops in 1964.
He also appeared on the music show’s final edition in 2006.
Charity fundraiser
His TV persona included chunky gold jewellery, a huge cigar, his trademark snowy white hair and a number of catch-phrases which were frequently parodied by impressionists such as Mike Yarwood.
Born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Savile was conscripted as a Bevin Boy, working in the coal mines during the war.
Away from broadcasting, he was noted for his charity work, running 200 marathons and raising £40m over the years.

He was a volunteer at the hospital and ran more than 200 marathons for various charitable organisations.
Sir Jimmy raised £20m for the creation of the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in 1983 after a storm damaged wooden huts which had housed spinal cord injury patients.
A spokeswoman for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said Sir Jimmy would be missed by staff and patients, adding: “He was tireless in his attempts to fundraise for the hospital and was integral in the creation of the National Spinal Injuries Centre that we have today.”
Savile was knighted by the Queen in 1990 for his charity work.

We say goood bye to the summer with a wicked mix of Bossa sounds from Spanish born Jesus Gomez a.k.a “El Nino Miedo”.
“I wanted the mix to be a little left of the current dance trends… so this is the sweet sounds of Bossa Nova and the flavors of Brazil… much inspired by good friend David Rhythm, and dedicated to a special girl from Brazil” - El Nino.
We agree… the mix is definitely sweet. As soon as I put it on the stress of work just melts away. Check it out.

Keep Schtum 006 hits the shops today !
Track 1, “Not a Program”, is quality Deep and rolling House music from Dublin’s finest… as you’d expect from the House of Schtum… and track 2 ? Well I’ve got that puppy on repeat - ”I Like It” a collaboration between Michael McKenna & Sean B. Doyle is just a killer. Starts tough and Garagey… then gets a bit jazzy and picks up some Naked Music-style flavours on the way… Like it? yes I do :)

Latest rework from JimmyTheTwin & The Boogie Cafe… this time Boogie Funk monster “Danger Zone” by Midnight Express.
The original is amazing but always mixed like a bag of bones… So I quantized the wonky tempo, and added a DJ-friendly in & out, and a subtle Tr505 accompaniment… original vibe intact, just longer, tighter, and more playable :)

2 of the best modern interpretations of cuban music I have heard in a long time. I mean this sh*t is tough! How this man can take a new urban Cuban track and inject elements of House, Funk even 80′s Boogie, and not only pull it off, but make it gel perfectly, is beyond me.

Proudly presenting an exclusive live recording from one of Disco’s 1st generation editors, Jay Negron. Recorded live @ his 2010 Thanksgiving Jamboree in South Florida, he saved this recording exclusively for you @ SoulFiesta / The Boogie Cafe.
Born in Brooklyn, Jay / J*Ski / Juan / JJ (even Lenny to some) started collecting records at the tender age of 6, and has been flying the flag for the uptempo Philly sound since well before anyone called it Disco.
Also famous for his early edits and medleys; Done using the original methods, multiple copies on Reel-2-Reel, and good old Razor’n'Tape, then cut to acetate for DJ use.
Some of Jay’s early works are featured in the amazing book: THE BOOTLEG GUIDE TO DISCO ACETATES, FUNK, RAP AND DISCO MEDLEYS by Disco Patrick (available here: http://www.discopatrick.com/).

To use a term Sell-by-Dave used to describe Cosmic Boogie… King of the 100BPM Banger would be very fitting here ! Slow, tough, head nodding, Soulful grooves.

THE BEDMO DISCO SELECTION BOX TRACK BY TRACK
Bedmo Disco – Money Crazy [Bedmo Disco Extension]
The first sugarcoated morsel from the ‘Selection Box’ is one of Bedmo Disco’s most requested edits. Originally available for a limited time on Soundcloud, ‘Money Crazy’ extends and reworks Intrigue’s ‘I Like It’ – a previously obscure British boogie tune that still changes hands for large sums of money. The version here has been re-mastered and is presented for the first time on a Bedmo Disco Records release. More Bedmo Disco boogie and electrofunk reworks are available on our new EP, ‘It’s A Synth’
FLX ONE – No Corner Love
Here at Bedmo Disco HQ, we’re particularly excited about our new signings Underwater Orchestra. Their debut EP, featuring a selection of white hot modern boogie, electrofunk and modern funk gems is going to drop on Bedmo Disco Records in 2011. As a special treat, the Underwater Orchestra’s FLX ONE – one of Bristol’s biggest boogie diggers and an acclaimed artist in his own right – has provided two high quality edits for ‘The Bedmo Selection Box’. The first, ‘No Corner Love’, is a simmering, horn-drenched boogie beauty.
Rocco Raimundo – Rocco’s Ramjet
Included here with the kind permission of Gazebo, ‘Rocco’s Ramjet’ was originally included on mysterious Australian Rocco Raimundo’s ‘Jack Shack’ EP. Here at Bedmo Disco HQ we’ve been huge fans of the suave Aussie scalpel-jockey’s work so far, and are delighted to be working with him on a brand new EP for Bedmo Disco Records. That should see the light of day in 2011, after his second EP for Gazebo. Until then, get yourself a copy of Jack Shack from Junodownload. For more on Rocco Raimundo, point your brower at Pollo Erotico or his Soundcloud profile.
Jimmy The Twin – Twilight [Jimmy The Twin’s 505 Rework]
Soundcloud sensation Jimmy The Twin has enjoyed an excellent 2010, seeing his disco, boogie and electrofunk edits become ‘must download’ items amongst the disco fraternity. We’re delighted to be working with Jimmy on his first commercial release, which is due for release on Bedmo Disco Records in 2011. As a taster of what to expect, Jimmy has given us a brand new edit – a raw, Roland 505-heavy heavy rework of Maze’s proto-house classic ‘Twilight’. Jimmy has plenty more edits available on Soundcloud – check his page out. Jimmy also runs the excellent Boogie Café blog
Cosmic Boogie – Let’s Jam
Liverpool disco don Cosmic Boogie provided us with our very first release earlier this year, the brilliant ‘Disco Grinch EP’. ‘Let’s Jam’ comes from that EP. Previously only available as an ‘album only’ bonus track, it’s a deliciously percussive chunk of P-funk goodness that never fails to work a dancefloor. There’s plenty more goodness on the ‘Disco Grinch EP’, which is still available from Juno Download. Cosmic Boogie is a busy boy right now, with a hectic remix and release schedule, as you can see from his website.
Bedmo Disco – Kongas
A taste of things to come from Bedmo Disco, ‘Kongas’ is a short, sharp chunk of glorious disco-funk. Exclusive to ‘The Bedmo Disco Selection Box’, this previously unreleased edit has been a staple of our sets for some time. A brand new Bedmo Disco edit EP, including some heavyweight disco funk and hands-in-the-air disco, will be released in Spring 2010.
FLX ONE – Inch Perfect
A second shit-hot edit from Underwater Orchestra man FLX ONE. This one takes a familiar underground boogie/electrofunk staple and gives it an 80s scalpel style rework. A seriously heavyweight jam! Incidentally, if you’re in Bristol, look out for FLX ONE’s regular boogie, electrofunk and space funk night, ‘High Hopes’. It takes place monthly at The Bank Of Stokes Croft. Well worth checking!
Bedmo Disco – Hammered
No festive release would be complete without a gloriously upbeat chunk of party fun. Hence ‘Hammered’, Bedmo Disco’s own party-smashing extension of Peter Gabriel’s majestic 80s powerpop stomper ‘Sledgehammer’. Exclusive to this EP, ‘Hammered’ has had music heads in a lather since a preview slipped out on Soundcloud last week. A 94BPM banger!
Bedmo Disco – Pardon My Bedmo [bonus minimix]
We round off ‘The Bedmo Disco Selection Box’ with an action-packed, iPod-friendly, 26-minute ‘mini-mix’. This was originally put together for the excellent Pardon My French blog and radio show. It features all sorts of unreleased nuggets, including a slew of unreleased Bedmo Disco edits and forthcoming gems. Full tracklist as follows:
Bedmo Disco – Pardon My Intro [exclusive] / Cosmic Boogie – Talk To Me / Bedmo Disco – Major Malfunction / Skyy – Let’s Turn It Out / Bionic Boogie – Boogie Boo / Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco – Exodus / Ian Dury & The Blockheads – Reasons To Be Cheerful, Part Three [Bedmo Disco Drum Dub / Material – Bustin’ Out [Bedmo Disco Dub] / Conway Brothers – Turn It Up [Bedmo Disco Dub] / George Clinton & Bootsy Collins – Leakin’ [Bedmo Disco Edit] / Instant Funk – Slam Dunk The Funk / Nightlife Unlimited – Peaches & Prunes [J Rocc Edit] / Bedmo Disco – Smitten [Bedmo Disco's Lovestruck Edit]

Another treat from Matt Rhythm and Ant Plate. This time a serious Electro Funk remix of Mark Ronson’s “Bang Bang Bang” feat Q-Tip. Still musically deep in the 80′s but significantly heavier than the original. Not wanting to sound too much like Neil from The Young Ones …this is heavy man.

Started out just fixing the DJ un-friendly fade at the start and got carried away !
Intention is a subtle edit / remix to make this RareGroove classic a slow dancefloor stepper :)
o Fade removed from start
o Added percussion
o Added Booige squelch
o Slightly extended
o Knotched it up a couple of BPM to minimise audible artifacts
o Manually quantized to half beat level (torture!)
Hope you likey :)

At a recent joint party for our wives Birthdays, Danny Capozzi dropped “Lovely Day” at the end of the night at it went off… a proper sing along. Inspired by this I thought it would be nice to have a dancefloor version that could keep the tempo and going. So here it is, a 118bpm tough thumpin garage edit of Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day”.
Sing along now ! :)
