NEW RELEASE :: GROOVE DEMOCRACY: Spain vs USA Vol II

Back again with another album of quality reworks… Nelue’s “Groove Democracy: Spain vs USA” vol 2 is steady throughout. Less Jazzy than the previous helping, but definitely more “Boogie”. Fave track is Gazeebo’s Edit of ”MUSIC”. Tighter and extended with a teasing intro… looking forward to playing this out :)

VINYL COMING SOON :: “RETROSPECTIVE ALL STARRS VOL1″

“RETROSPECTIVE ALL STARRS VOL1″

I am proud to announce my contribution to the forthcoming triple vinyl (you read correctly folks, triple !) LP from Ruben & Ra‘s  Retrospective Records, entitled  RETROSPECTIVE ALL STARRS VOL 1.

My track is  a bass-heavy, mix-friendly, modern version of rare groove beauty CAUGHT UP (check out track B2),…  extended with a new structure, 80′s percussion, jackin vocals, my signature BoOm and a touch of growl, this once mellow track is now aimed squarely at the dancefloor with subs turned up  ! …

The rest of the album is a mixture of nu disco/boogie and house… delivered by artists both new and established including legends such as the Rayko, Toomy Disco, 78 Edits,  and bosses Ruben & Ra.  I’m honoured to be inlcuded !

So, what else can I say about this album ? Apart from a strong line up, a good range of tempos and some serious tunes, I am loving the artwork! Reminiscent of the old Acid Jazz records…

***** PRESS RELEASE *****

After 7 snapped up twelves including Ruben & Ra’s breakthrough anthem ‘Newer Shooz’, their viral follow-up ‘Street Machine’ and the Juno chart-topping ‘People‘ by Rayko, the West London-based Retrospective label are set to release their first long-player May 2012.

Since the imprint’s inception in January 2011, label boss Ra has carefully scoured the nu-disco spectrum to assemble an international roster of like-minded artists. In recent months, in light of the fold’s emergence, Retrospective has steadily been expanding their global network by commissioning tracks from many of the scene’s leading names. For the first in a series of three compilations, ‘Retrospective All-Stars Vol. 1’ is purposed to both commemorate this growing stature, while showcasing the wealth of talent from within the label’s newly extended family.

Comprised of 12 previously unreleased cuts spread across a DJ friendly triple-vinyl pack, the album is opened in fine style by the revered Argentinian Toomy Disco’s first cut for Retrospective, entitled ‘Peppermint’. Montenegro national Fil Lavin, who took the baton for Retro005, provides a trademark lick of deep house, while Glaswegian Slow It Down and Bristolian Jimmy The Twin respectively make their Retrospective debuts to complete the first disc.

Over on the second disc, Spanish boogie chronicler Rayko, who provided the material for Reto002 and Retro006, joins American Trev-Ski, Londoner Harry Benson (aka Picture House) and the Utrecht-residing Romanian Andrei Idu under his celebrated moniker, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra. Completing the package, Frenchman Art Bleek, the Berlin-based Mudegg, Scotsman Jamie Buchanan (aka 78 Edits) and of course, label figureheads Ruben & Ra all feature on the final disc.

Retospective All-Stars Vol 1 comes packaged in a limited triple-vinyl pack, with a luxury finish to give this landmark compendium a deserved sense of occasion.

================ PRESS RELEASE FROM BEDMO DISCO RECORDS ================

Following two well-received 12” singles in 2011, Bristol’s Bedmo Disco Records – “The Sound of Bedminster” – returns in 2012 with something rather special: the debut re-edits EP from longtime family member JIMMY THE TWIN.

So-called because, you guessed it, he’s a twin, Jimmy has been gathering quite a following on Soundcloud and throughout the disco galaxy for the quality of his no-nonsense reworks. Having already seen two of his most popular re-edits bootlegged by unscrupulous Germans, made a white-hot contribution to the recent Philadelphia International Re-Edits comp on Harmless and provided a heavy cut to the latest Legendary Sound Research release (Legendary Edits), Bristol’s most sophisticated soul brother is ready to make his 12” debut proper.

505 Funk (with an 808 boom) showcases his distinct re-edit style – a combination of vintage drum machine action, deep dancefloor knowledge and a fondness for high quality builds. Each of the four re-edits featured has been re-created using classic Roland drum machines – specifially the TR-505, TR-707 and TR-808. Each has also been widely road-tested on dancefloors – not just by Jimmy and the Bedmo Disco family, but also some of the world’s best disco, boogie, soul and house jocks.

The use of vintage drum machines gives 505 Funk (with an 808 boom) a distinctly loose swing often missing from other contemporary re-edits. There’s a deftness of touch and respect for the original material that’s often missing elsewhere.

The A-side (named “The 505 Side”) boasts two heavyweight slayers that hark back to the glory days of drum machine funk. First up is “Moonspot Rock”, a ludicrously heavy, lino-tastic re-cut of electro anthem “Breakin’ In Space” that’s been doing the business at our parties for yonks. Also gracing the A is “Foolish”, a glorious re-edit of Paradise Garage fave “Fools Paradise” that has “singalong moment” written all over it (check those snappy analogue handclaps!). If it doesn’t get your spine tingling, there’s something wrong.

Flip to the B (dubbed “The Funk Side”) for two subtle reworks of rare groove faves “Bump & Hustle” (the stupidly heavy builder “Bump & Boom” – check that low-end wobble) and “Going Home To See My Baby” (here re-named “Going Home”). Both pack a formidable punch, but leave enough of the original cuts in tact to please all but the most ashen-faced of funk-soul nerds.

So there you have it, a re-edit release that treats the original material with respect but also adds some worthy new elements. Bravo Jimmy!

“505 FUNK” WILL BE RELEASED ON 12″ ON APRIL 30, 2012

** PLEASE NOTE – THESE ARE 128 KBPS FILES FOR PREVIEW PURPOSES ONLY **

** THIS EP WILL ALSO BE RELEASED AS A DIGITAL DOWNLOAD, A MONTH AFTER THE 12″ **

NEW FUNK RELEASE :: THIRD COAST KINGS

THIRD COAST KINGS REVIEW:

=================================

Record Kicks brings you the latest (and much awaited) release from the Third Coast Kings …with their bonafide funk sound and prodcution, this does not sound like it was made in 2011/12 ….more like 40 years ago.  So what has this album got to offer? ..you got the Sweet soul of “Give me your love”, the deep smokey Funk of “Roughneck” or J.B. style Sax on “Cop it Proper” but the 2 standout tracks for me are “Emcee Marie” and “Summalove”.

“Emcee Marie” is gonna be a dancefloor killer. I’ll be road testing this at the Big Chill Bristol on the 30th and I got a feeling about this one. At 92 BPM, with a tough breakbeat, this smacks of the warm up tune that fills the floor.

As for “Summalove”, well the name says it all… you can almost feel the sun on your cheeks when listening to this one. just lovely.

I’d like to add by saying these guys have a swing to their groove that is missing from alot of modern funk bands.  This does not sound like it was played to a tick track, nor does it sound like it was arranged in cubase. This is the real deal.

These guys are going straight into my March Juno chart (JUNO & Juno DOWNLOAD)!

NEW RELEASE :: LEGENDARY EDITS feat. “Little Bit of Jazz” (JimmyTheTwin Edit)

Proudly presenting my contribution to the latest release on Legendary Sound Research, “Legendary Edits”.

My track is a tough but gently “housed” version of a Boogie Fusion classic “Little bit of Jazz”.  Brought up to 118bpm for the dancefloor, added Drum machine, percussion and touch of 808 boom.   The EP also boasts awesome tracks from AlkalinoMannMadeMusic, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra, Andrei, Richmed. Massive thanks to Legend himself Andrei for including me on this release :)

Check out the press release ::

=======================

Legendary Sound Research is proud to present Legendary Edits. A compilation of reworks guaranteed to rock the dancefloor in every way possible. The first two tracks are from new-comers Andrei and Richmed. Andrei contributes with an astonishing take on Curtis Mayfield’s ‘Tripping Out’, chopping up the original in a very stylish manner while focusing on the superb bassline. Richmed offers an edit with an 80s deep disco synth groove that will make the crowd go wild. The next four tracks come from already established rework master craftsmen. MannMadeMusic steps up with soulful deep vibes complemented by moving percussion layers. JimmyTheTwin makes a boogie jazz number meet with vintage drum machines, adding boom and groove to the arrangement. Alkalino reworks a groovy disco-rock track making it perfect for some late night dancefloor madness. Finally, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra closes the compilation with a cinematic soulful disco rework that grooves tighter than a high-school stage band in ’74!

NEW RELEASE :: ISM Records presents …MIDNIGHT RIOT

Smashing new release on ISM records… a compilation of edits, remixes and original pieces  with a slomo, nu-boogie flava.

And it’s a big’un too – 17 tracks in total, taken from some of the hottest talent around: Yam Who? Electric Boogie, Rayko, Deadly Sins, Matthew Kyle… the list goes on.

Some highlights for me; MR.CHICAGO’s “BAD DUB”… Dark, moody, dubbed out disco. If Vampires made disco, this is what it would sound like;  ”Heads Over” by Magnetic Soul… uplifting streched out boogie, starts like a dub then gives you a jazzy money shot towards the end; Legendary 1979 Orchestras “The Living”, sweet strings and heart warming piano; YamWho?’s “Talking to Myelf”, a spacey Soul trip. In fact as I pick out highlights I’m in danger of listing the whole album! but Electric Boogie “The Flow”  has to be my fave.  Jazz Boogie Fusion at its best.  Grover, eat your heart out :)

COMING SOON ! So keep em peeled.

NEW RELEASE :: New on Gazeebo 2012

Two new releases on Gazeebo International records

1) This is a Recording – “Southern Neon Lights”

from London’s Jason Slater & Woody a.k.a. ‘This Is A Recording‘.

The OG is a super warm piece of deep instrumental disco… very nice. .  while the Gazeebo’s Northern Funk remix takes on an almost prog-rock trip… deep house style keys… organic drums,  guitar, warm synth bass  and extra spacey sound effects.  The result is properly spaced out!

Southern Neon Lights” drops February 23rd exclusively on Juno, Beatport & Traxsource.

2) Adults Only 3 “Bedroom Bullies”

What can I say? I can sum this release in 4 bullet points…

  • Just the right cow bells
  • Bad ass synth :)
  • Old skool space sound effects
  • Buy it

Includes great mixes from Rayko, Sleezy McQueen and Zoe Raygun.  Gazeebo’s Censored Mix is the winner for me. Love it :)

All 4 mixes blast off on vinyl in March at a record store near you.
